1848-O Liberty Seated Half Dime, Mint State-66 (PCGS/CAC)
Valentine 2: Medium O, Superb Original 66+

Valentine 2 - Liberty's drapery pendant hangs above left of center of 4, and most of the stars exhibit artifacts about their points. Reverse with Medium O mintmark placed slightly high and left.

The obverse toning is a muted violet and blue, with vivid iridescent splashes of red, green, and gold from the date left through star 4. The reverse toning is a bit more quiet, dominated by faint gold and amber, with hints of powder blue and a few more iridescent splashes. The strike is bold yet not quite full, as Liberty's hair is a little blunt, and the upper leaves at left reverse are lacking some fine detail at their tips. The luster is frosted and original. Contact marks are both few and trivial, including a single mark on Liberty's upper right arm, and some ticking in the upper reverse field above HALF. This is easily an upper end coin for the grade.

PCGS reports 10 graded MS66, 3 MS67, and a single finest MS68 for all varieties of 1848-O Half Dimes combined, including known duplicate submissions.
