1887 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar, Mint State-67 (PCGS/SP)
Light Multicolored Tone, PCGS Pop. 5/0

Briggs 1-A - A fine die scratch in the lower obverse shield joins vertical stripes 2 through 8. Stars 4 and 5 show minor repunching.

Softly toned in blue, green, russet and amber, which becomes more vivid near the rims. Well struck, although with stars 7 through 13 lacking their centers, and with a few strands of Liberty's hair not defined. Some faint, grazing contact marks are barely visible in the left obverse field inside stars 2 to 3, with a few more at right inside stars 11 to 12, all of which are well camouflaged by the toning.

PCGS reports only five 1887 Quarters certified as MS-67, including one PCGS/CAC MS-67 that shows too many filmy fingerprints for my liking (see Heritage 4/2007:645 @ $7,475 and Heritage 1/2009:2369 also @ $7,475). This PCGS MS-67 is certainly one of the best of the remaining four.

$ 10,500
