Overton 109 ~
Recutting on many of the stars, with star 7 the most dramatic and showing three fine extra points. Numbers in the date well spaced and in nearly a straight line. Reverse with large C in denomination. (Rarity 2).
Intensely prooflike with strongly reflective fields, unlike any other example of this date that I have ever seen. The surfaces are unquestionably original and superbly toned with bright gold at the centers blending to vivid shades of amber, violet, blue and green approaching the rims. Contact marks are few and mostly well camouflaged, with a three point mark left of the tip of Liberty's nose, and another contact mark near her collar left of the drapery knot the most notable. This is truly an exceptional Capped Bust Half.
As first stated in the catalogue for the April 1997 Eliasberg sale, this amazing Gem is still "Far and Away the Finest Known". This is the only 1835 Capped Bust Half certified as MS-67 by PCGS, followed by two coins graded PCGS MS-65.
