1808 Capped Bust Half Dollar, Mint State-66 (PCGS)
Overton 107, Ex Eliasberg

Overton 107 - A shallow, crescent shaped lump protrudes from the front of Liberty's throat. Reverse with four raised dots in the field immediately above the junction of the shield and wing at left, two spikes above the scroll below the space between D-S, and all three arrowheads joined. (Rarity 3). Obverse die crack from left rim through star 5, Liberty's hair, diagonally through BE, Liberty's cap, stars 8 to 9, then to the rim at right. No cracks have yet developed below the date as noted for Overton 107a.

Richly frosted original luster shimmers from surfaces that appear finely textured under a glass. The toning is unquestionably natural, and is dominated by soft grayish amber and subtle olive, blending to iridescent speckles of blue, green and violet in areas about the rims. Fully struck with bold stars, finely detailed hair, and complete eagle's feathers. A thin hairline on Liberty's cheek, a few shallow contact marks in the right obverse field, and a shallow graze in the left reverse field between the I in UNITED and the left side wing are the only surfaces disturbances of note. A planchet streak or "drift mark" appears on the reverse above the eagle's head, but does not affect the grade.
