1913-S Barber Quarter Dollars, Mint State-67 (PCGS) Original, satiny luster exhibits soft, swirling cartwheels when turned under a light. Natural cellophane toning shows faint gold, icy blue, and a hint of green, similar to original proof silver coins of the 1930s and '40s. Boldly struck but for star 11 on the obverse, the eagle's claw at right, and the ends of the arrow feathers. The surfaces are nearly perfect, with only a few shallow contact marks in the right obverse field visible under a strong glass. 1913-S Quarters have long been prized for their low mintage of only 40,000 coins, lowest of any regular issue Barber Dimes, Quarters, and Halves. Fortunately, a small number of Gems have survived, with PCGS reporting three certified as MS-67, and one MS-68. However, few of the Gem 1913-S Quarters have escaped a dip to bright white, so original coins are the exception. Provenance:
