1822 Capped Bust Quarter Dollar, Mint State-64 (PCGS)
Browning 1: Normal Reverse, Rare Near Gem Mint State

Browning 1 - Normal reverse without repunching at 25C, small dentils. (Rarity 3).

Fully original surfaces exhibit natural, light gray gold toning with areas of soft amber, green and blue mostly near the rims. Scatterred tiny contact marks set the grade. A shallow depression in the lower obverse field which appears to be a "struck through" from a small chip of wood, and a fine scratch from Liberty's drapery clasp down to between 22 are the most notable issues. The strike is weak in just a few areas, with the stars flat, Liberty's hair somewhat thick in detail, and the eagle's claw at right missing most of its lower scales. Nevertheless, this is one of the finest known examples of this often overlooked and underrated issue.

PCGS reports four 1822 Quarters certified as MS-64, with a single MS-67 finer.
