1836 Gobrecht Dollar, Name On Base, PR64 (PCGS)
Judd 60 Restrike, Plain Edge, Alignment III

Judd 60 Restrike - "C. GOBRECHT F." on base. Plain Edge, Alignment III.

The surfaces appear to be fully original and undipped, with toning that is natural yet softly opaque. The obverse is toned in faint blue and champagne about the center, deepening to a mix of olive and amber nearer the rim, while the reverse is deeper in tone with the olive and amber more evident. This near Gem has the overall look of a Proof-65, but for a patch of hairlines at the lower right obverse. The fields are glassy with no texture, indicative of a true Proof, in contrast to the textured fields of the Original Period strikings.

The popularity of the 1836 Name on Base Originals due to their inclusion in both Mint State and Proof Type sets pushes their prices ahead of Alignment III, Plain Edge Restrikes. However, these Judd-60 Restrkes are significantly rarer, severely limiting their availability to the growing number of Gobrecht Dollar collectors.
