1795 Liberty Cap 1c, Plain Edge, MS65BN (PCGS)
Sheldon 78, Tied Noyes CC#1

Sheldon 78 - Plain Edge. Top of 5 barely touches Liberty's bust line, and is entirely visible. Reverse with four berries on the left branch, three on the right, ONE CENT central, and both branches terminating in single leaves. (Rarity 1).

Exceptionally lustrous, smooth, medium brown surfaces show hints of original Mint red. Struck after the dies clashed and were refinished, imparting a slightly prooflike reflectiveness. Fairly well centered, with slight roughness in the obverse denticles at right, as made, and weakness in the reverse denticles at left. Small, shallow contact marks in the right obverse field and a thin scratch across the end of Liberty's bust have long since toned over. Overall, this is an exceptional Gem with few peers.

Noyes "MS63 Choice", tied atop the condition census with the Ruby and Dupont coins. This is the plate coin for Sheldon 78 in "United States Large Cents 1793 - 1814" by William C. Noyes. Additionally, this is one of three "Plain Edge" 1795 Cents certified by PCGS as MS65BN, with none finer, which would include Sheldon 76B and 77.

In comparison, PCGS has certified seven 1795 Lettered Edge Cents as MS65BN, with an additional three graded MS65RB.
